Last Year Ever Review
December 31, 2012
I am here to present the idea that doing that...
...shockingly...
...won't work.
You will most likely be beating yourself up again next year.
Intead, let's try something new.
Like
I have been saying all year, let's pretend that this truly is The Last
Year Ever. Imagine the world will indeed end come Friday. Embrace this
idea, just for a moment.
With that idea in mind, look back at your life for a moment and ask:
What wonderful things would never have happened if I hadn't been born?
Cliche? Maybe. But it is extraordinary if you really get into it.
Did you rescue a dog and give him/her a wonderful life?
Did you ever truly touch someone with a thoughtful gift?
Have you ever loved someone that didn't feel like they were lovable?
Have you ever given money or donated time to someone else in need?
Think about your job - who has looked you in the eye and given you a meaningful "thank you"?
Has anyone ever told you that you made their day?
Has anyone every told you "that's one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me!"?
Have you started a business, a family, or a friendship that made even ONE person's life better?
Do you have an idea yet of how you have made an impact?
Now
imagine you weren't here to do those things, to say those things, to
touch those lives. Yes, maybe someone else would pick up your slack.
Maybe... or maybe not. Sit for a minute in the knowledge that you have
made a difference, just by being you.
Look back on your life, and take a moment to feel peace in the idea that if the world did indeed end on Friday, you have done enough. Imagine you have no more time, and simply be grateful that you had the time you had to do the amazing things you have done.
With
THAT energy, we will move into 2013 together. We will create more
wonderful impact and meaning. No regret, no obligation, no guilt.
If the world ended on Friday, you have done enough. You are enough.
And I dig you.
